Year 12 Practicals

13th Nov 2019

Congratulations to Year 12 GCSE Home Economics: Food and Nutrition students who completed the practical examination element of their controlled assessment after half term.  The focus for this year’s task was satisfying the nutritional and dietary needs of older adults (aged over 65 years), along with the importance of helping them to enjoy food.

Pupils applied their knowledge of this topic to select three dishes and accompaniments which would help to satisfy these nutritional and dietary needs.  In addition to focusing on the topic, pupils also needed to be mindful of incorporating sufficient higher level practical skills to gain maximum marks.

Following their planning, pupils undertook a three hour practical examination, where they used their detailed time-plans to prepare, cook and present their dishes and accompaniments.  This required considerable dovetailing as pupils were handling several dishes at once.  They were assessed on their organisation, management, skills and final outcomes.

Look at these delicious results!
