Shared Education - Seamus Heaney Centre

16th Nov 2018

On Wednesday 14th November a group of Year 10, 11 and 12 English Literature pupils travelled to HomePlace: The Seamus Heaney Centre with pupils from Holy Trinity College as part of a Shared Education Project trip. Pupils had the opportunity to learn about Heaney’s childhood, life and family, and his connections to the locality. They gained an insight into some of his poetic and creative inspirations and heard recordings of Heaney reading many of his famous poems. The pupils also participated in a workshop where they learned about the ‘anatomy of a poem’ and this culminated in the pupils creating some poems of their own. A great time was had by all as pupils got the chance to learn more of the man ‘who rhymed to see himself’ and used the ‘squat pen’ to do his ‘digging’.
