Mountain Biking at Davaghs new pump trail
This week saw the official opening of Davagh's pump track and practice trails.
24 GCSE and A Level PE students from Cookstown High School and Holy Trinity were invited to attend as part of their respective courses.
The students had an opportunity to partake in the practice trails using top of the range mountain bikes, over steep and difficult bends and drops. They took on the challenge eagerly trying to outdo each other and gaining the confidence to progress from the level 1 pathways to the level 3 pathways.
The morning progressed onto the pump track where the pupils had to engage in a variety of mountain biking techniques to cover a hilly circuit with as little pedalling as possible. Again the pupils enjoyed the competitiveness and one student accomplished 11 laps of the circuit without a single pedal.
The day was finished off with some speeches on the development of Davagh and some food. The CHS students were able to learn from this experience which will see a number of them use this experience to progress in their GCSE course.
