Match reports - 2nd XI and U14

19th Feb 2015

The U14 girl's faced BRA in the Ulster Schools Junior Plate

The girls had a close match the round before which had ended in stroke,s so they were up for the challenge! CHS started strongly with some good runs up the right from Hannah Haycock and Rebecca Mckeown but the BRA defence stood firm and the girls could not penetrate their circle!   After 10mins the BRA team started to gel causing Cookstown some trouble up front, but the back line worked tirelessly making their tackles and distributing the ball out to midfield.   Megan Ferson in goal was having a tremendous match and made some spectacular saves!

In the 2nd half Cookstown came out fighting and played some fantastic hockey, with Emily Rodgers and Megan Holdsworth linking up really well.  Both these girls were unlucky not to score but the keeper was not to be beaten!  At full time the score remained 0-0 which resulted in extra time, and the possibility of strokes looming overhead!  The girls defended strongly and BRA pushed forward creating several chances but Ferson remained strong!  Erin Anderson & Hannah Haycock had chances saved, but after extra time the score was still 0-0.

After 5 penalty strokes each it ended in a 1-1 draw, so to sudden death! The BRA player was unfortunate to hook her stroke wide but Anderson made no mistake & placed hers far from the keepers reach to win the game, putting the girls through to the next round.

2nd XI   1   vs   0   Royal School Dungannnon

On Saturday the 2ndXI took on Royal School Dungannon in the McDowell cup.

After a long spell without matches the girls were obviously nervous about the game. This was not to be shown on the pitch the girls started well, with some great runs from Clare Spence, Corie Harkness and Hannah Warwick up front. The girls had several chances but could not convert them as the Dungannon keeper was in top form allowing nothing to cross the line. Dungannon fought back and created some good chances, but Rebekah Hill, Jenny Crozier, Hannah Barnes and Victoria Acheson were making some excellent tackles and distributing accurate balls into midfield. Chloe Morrow in nets was also in great form and any shot on target was dealt with cleanly.

The second half saw Cookstown push forward again, with Jessica Stewart, Sarah Hammond and Rachel Millar controlling the midfield, allowing their forwards the chance to run.  This finally paid off when Corie Harkness took a shot from the top of the D and scored. Dungannon tried hard to fight back, and were unlucky not to equalise, but Cookstown held firm and the score finished 1-0 to Cookstown placing them in the quarter final of the cup.
