Celebrating international friendship

28th Apr 2016

Cookstown High School recently had the pleasure of welcoming a group of thirty-two Spanish pupils and three of their teachers from their partner school in Madrid, San Luís de Los Franceses.  This is the fifth year that the Amistad (Friendship) Project has been running, but its origins stem from a friendship between the two organising teachers, Mrs Pilar Gonzáles and Mrs Valerie Purvis-Dawoud, who worked together in a school in England over twenty-five years ago.

The group of Spanish visitors mixed with pupils from Cookstown High School during a range of activities which were specially planned for the visit: a barbecue at Cookstown Hockey Club, a Social at school, a visit to the Ulster American Folk Park in Omagh, a Town Trail in Cookstown, a photo challenge around school, bowling at the Leisure Centre, and participation in a variety of lessons in school.

The visit was a great success, and we look forward to many more years of friendship and collegiality between the two schools.
