Bun Sale for Charity

Miss Irvine’s Form Class, 9DA, held a Cake and Bun Sale.
We made different types of buns and cakes at home and then brought them into school on Friday morning. There were so many buns to choose from; we made Rice Krispie Buns, Pudsey Bear Fairy Cakes, Fifteens and Top Hats. We sold our buns at break time........more

Lady Diana Memorial Awards for Year 13 Pupils        [Posted: 22/05/05]
Seven Year 13 pupils have recently been awarded the prestigious Lady Diana memorial award for their fundraising efforts. As a result of raffles, coffee mornings, quiz nights, cake sales and many donations each student raised over £1000 pounds. The money raised was used to buy supplies and equipment as part of the School Aid Romania Project. The Students travelled to the Brasov region of Romania in February of this Year with pupils from 3 other schools.
This award recognises their services to the community and the fine example they show to others.
The students are C. Bell, A. Hunter, L. Kempton, R. Nelson, P. Irwin,
L. Glendinning and S. Bolton Staff AM Fleming and M. Hogg.

Congratulations to Mr Marsh who ran the recent Belfast Marathon in a time of 4 hours and 27 minutes. Mr Marsh raised over £500 for Action Cancer.

 

Darts Competition raises Money for the Tsunami appeal.      [Posted: 22/05/05]
Congratulations to C. Burns and J. McWhirter who organised and ran a highly competitive darts competition to help raise money for the Tsunami appeal. The competition ran over several lunchtimes and the eventual winner from year 12 was B. Wilson , who presented with a trophy kindly donated by Mr M. McWhirter. The competition raised over £60. Well done!

 

High School pupils work up a sweat to raise money    [Posted: 22/05/05]
High School pupils took part in a sponsored aerobics session to help raise money to send Chloe Boden and the Northern Ireland U21 Netball Team to the World Student Games in Florida in July.

Local Combo Aerobics instructor Judith Harkness kindly donated her services and ran two very energetic aerobics classes in the school over lunch time. The school netball teams have been working very hard to help Chloe raise the £1500 pounds needed for these games. Chloe and Mrs Campbell would like to thank every body, but especially Judith, who have supported the fund raising efforts.

 

Tsunami appeal     [Posted: 25/1/05]
The recent collection in aid of the Tsunami disaster relief fund has raised an excellent £1330. So very well done to everyone who gave so generously! Pupils should also note that any money raised by the up coming Crazy Sock and Wacky Tie day will also be donated to the Tsunami appeal.

 

Dave’s Story    [Posted: 25/1/05]
David was found when he was approximately 5 years old in the Tanjung Puting National Park, Central Indonesian Borneo. He was discovered alone with many deep machete cuts and gun pellets imbedded in his arms and legs. Now thanks to Care for the Wild International and Class 10 OA who have adopted him. David has received expert care at the Orphan Orangutan Care Centre in Borneo and is he now well on the road to recovery. David has joined a long list of animals that have already been adopted by pupils or classes in Cookstown High School. The list includes another orangutan, a rhino, a snow leopard, a chimpanzee, a dolphin and a badger.

What is your old phone worth?    [Posted: 25/1/05]
The “Fones for Schools” recycling scheme is up and running in school again. You can turn your old phones and chargers etc into brilliant prizes. U can win everything from a key ring to an X Box or colour TV. Last year Cookstown High School was the top school in the United Kingdom. So come on, get your Pupil Pack from Miss Parker in Room 30 in the upper building and get collecting.

Paddling Your Own Canoe       [Posted: 24/11/04]
Mrs Blackwood her husband and their friend Mr J Mayberry at the start of their sponsored canoe along the length of the River Bann from Lough Neagh to the Bar Mouth at Castle Rock. So far the intrepid trio have managed to raise well over £1000 for Alzheimer’s Research. Well done!

 

School Aid Romania    [Posted: 24/11/04]
Emma, Laura, Deborah, Laura and Pamela who are part of the School Aid Romania Project. The girls have raised over £371 by selling cakes and buns on the main street as part of the Saturday market. All the other pupils involved with School Aid Romania are also very busy raising money with everything from a Beetle Drive, selling 20p mix ups and name the Bear. If possible support as many of these enterprises as you can. All the money raised will go to buy much needed supplies when the pupils are out helping in the orphanages of Romania later in the year.

 

Year 8 pupils support Charity    [Posted: 24/11/04]
The television presenter John Daly accepts a cheque for £170 on behalf of Action Cancer. The money was raised by Year 8 pupils who had come to watch Mr Wilson being gunged as part of the Jon Daly show.

 

Action MS Charity receives over £3000.00       [Posted: 16/06/04]
The director of Action MS, Mrs Ann Walker receives a check for £3000.00 from Mrs W. Mc Crea and pupils of Cookstown High School. The money was raised by carrying out a sponsored walk around Drum Manor Forest Park. Each of the pupils pictured raised over £100.






 

Setting the Business World on Fire    [Posted: 14/05/04]
The ‘Ignite’ Mini Enterprise Company recently concluded a highly successful year in the world of ‘Big Business’. The Company was run by year 13 pupils who are studying for As level Business Studies The company was set up in September 2003, and finally closed it’s order book in March 2004 after a very successful year. Overall the company managed to pay a healthy dividend to all its shareholders and to raise lots of money for charity. It donated £200 to Arthritis Care NI and $200 to Marie Curie Cancer Care.




 

World Book Day   [Posted: 14/05/04]
Congratulation to Neil (8EF) and Alana (9DB) who are the winners of the School Library competition. The competion was run in conjunction with World Book Day and also helped raise £53 pounds for charity. Well done to everyone who took part.

 

Zambia Radio Appeal    [Posted: 15/03/04]
Tony McMinn and Sandra McKenna members of Cookstown Rotary Club accept a cheque for £3,500 from the Headmaster and pupils of Cookstown High School. Students in every year raised the Money, through various activities including a ‘Wacky Tie’ and ‘Crazy Sock’ Day. The money raised will be used to purchase over 100 wind-up radios to help educate at least 5000 young people in Zambia who have been orphaned through AIDS.

 

Action M.S.    [Posted: 15/03/04]
Pupils, who raised over £100 for Action MS, received their pennants from John Daly at a special Luncheon at the Europa Hotel. Overall 360 pupils took part in the sponsored walk in Drum Manor and raised a staggering total of £7555. This meant that the school received the shield for the top school in the Western Area.
