Seniors reach NI League Final
posted 24 Feb 2010

Cookstown High School Senior Netball Squad have become the first Senior team in schools history to make the Northern Ireland League Final. This is one of the biggest competitions in Netball in Northern Ireland so it’s a massive achievement for CHS as the N.I. League is largely dominated by larger Belfast schools.

To reach the final, the girls had to play in the S.E.L.B. area league first. They defeated all teams in this league which included the following teams:

Sacred Heart Newry
Our Lady’s’ Newry
Portadown College
St. Michael’s Lurgan
St. Paul ’s Bessbrook

They had to play in S.E.L.B. League final at the end of January against Our Lady’s Newry. CHS won after a very tough match defeating them 24 goals to 13.

This put them in the quarterfinal stage of the League where they had to play the winners of the W.E.L.B. Loreto Grammar School, Omagh. CHS defeated them convincingly 43 – 17.

They then played Aquinas Grammar school, Belfast in the semi finals. Cookstown put up a very strong performance and emerged victorious defeating them 37 – 23.

In the Northern Ireland League finals, Cookstown will take on Our Lady of Saint Patrick’s, Knock this Thursday.

Good luck to the Senior Girls in this match and well done.
