U14 Boys Match reports - Campbell College / Bangor Grammar
posted 5 March 2008

Cookstown High School   4 v 0    Campbell College U14

Unfortunately Cookstown only had 9 players for this match with Campbell only having ten so it was a very open match.

Cookstown almost broke the deadlock in the first seconds through Sloan after a good run. The boys pressed on and Sloan made it 1-0 from a short corner. Gareth ‘the goal machine’ Wilkinson then got his first of the day with an unstoppable shot from 6 yards. Sloan then made it 3-0 before half-time to end a good first half display.

In the second half Cookstown continued to pressure Campbell with Vartabedian, Sloan and McAllen bursting forward from deep. Campbell started to play a bit better and only for the unbeatable Walker would have found a way back into the match. As usual Wilkinson saved the team by dictating the tempo and getting his second of the day with a superb drive at the back post. Wilkinson was unlucky not to get to his hat-trick on several occasions with shots flying millimetres past the post after mazy runs from the wing.

Man of the Match: Gareth Wilkinson.

The boys would like to thank Mr. Haycock for coaching and umpiring.

Team: Walker, Elliott, Kane, Cheevers, Sloan (capt), McAllen, Vartabedian, Montgomery, Wilkinson, Young.

Cookstown High School Under 14’s    5  v  1    Bangor Grammar School U14’s

This was the quarter final of the Ferris Cup and the boys were eager to set up a tie against arch-rivals Banbridge Academy in the Semi Final.

The boys started poorly unable to find their rhythm without McCammon and Harkness, who were unavailable, and went behind after a goal mouth scramble. However, the boys started to improve and Sloan equalised with a reverse stick shot before half- time.

The boys put in a much improved performance in the second half and they soon got back to their best with Sloan making it 2-1 just after the break and Millar getting Cookstown’s third. Vartabedian got his third of the season with a rather fortuitous effort before Sloan completed his hat-trick in the final minute.

Final score Cookstown 5 Bangor 1.

The boys would like to thank Mr. Haycock for coaching and Ewan Butler for umpiring.

Team: Walker, Elliott, Millar, Cheevers, Sloan (capt), McAllen, Vartabedian, Montgomery, Wilkinson, Robinson, Rollins, Crawford, McWhirter. McCammon, Watt.
