HEARTBREAK FOR UNDER 13 HOCKEY TEAM IN BANNISTER BOWL FINAL
posted 14 March 2008

The Under 13 team travelled to Lisnagarvey on Wednesday 12 th March to play Sullivan Upper School in the final of the Bannister Bowl. This is the second year in a row that a team from Cookstown High School has reached this final.

The team was in confident mood after their excellent victories over RBAI and Banbridge Academy in last weeks quarter and semi final.

Conditions were horrendous throughout the match and this, along with the difficult water based pitch at Lisnagarvey, made the game a lottery at times. Both teams deserve tremendous credit for battling hard and they certainly put on a very entertaining game for the hundreds of supporters.

Unfortunately Sullivan were just that wee bit slicker on the day and just as the game looked as if it was going to go into extra time, Sullivan scored with less than two minutes to go.

The disappointment on the boy’s faces at the final whistle said it all. But the team deserve tremendous credit for a wonderful season and when they look back at some of the early season results, they will realise just how far they have come. Captain Daniel C should be very proud of his team and they can look forward to much more success in the future.

The team and coaches (Mr Kerr and Mr Butler) would like to thank Mr Kenny Crooks for all the hard work he has put in with the team this year on Tuesday evenings and also Saturday mornings. Thanks also to all the other boys who have played for the team at some point during the season.
