Cookstown Hockey Club U15   4 - 3   (aet)   Lisnagarvey Hockey Club U15
posted 26 Feb 2008

Cookstown Hockey Club U15 hockey team (which consists entirely of CHS pupils!) is into the semi final of the Ulster U15 Cup after beating Lisnagarvey U15s 3 - 2 on penalties after the match ended 1 -1.

Cookstown started the game slowly with Lisnagarvey having more possession of the ball and creating more chances. They got two early short corners but did not convert them after some good defending from Sloan. Cookstown went a goal down before half time after good follow up play from a Lisnagarvey forward.

Cookstown started to play much better hockey in the second half with the midfield of Rollins, Sloan and Harkness getting more control of midfield. The good work paid off when Matthew Rollins set up Ryan Millar to score the equalizer. Both team had chances to win the game with Adam Henry pulling off some excellent saves and Ian Sloan and Matthew Rollins both going close at the other end. The game went into extra time with no further score as the Cookstown defence of McCammon, Morrow, Johnston and McAllen held firm with some timely tackles.

The game was decided by taking penalty strokes. Millar, Rollins and Sloan scored for Cookstown and the game was won as Adam Henry saved 3 penalties.

A special mention must go to Kyle McCammon who dashed from a NI schoolboy football training session to play superbly at right half.

The boys would like to thank coaches Martin Sloan and Michael Millar.

Team: A Henry(capt), J McAllen, P Morrow, K McCammon, R Johnston, I Sloan, M Rollins, K Harkness, R Millar, S Robinson, P Vartabedian.
