Cambridge Taster Day at CHS
posted 22 March 07

High achieving pupils from right across Northern Ireland travelled to Cookstown High on Tuesday 20th March to learn more about student life at the University of Cambridge. This is the first time the event has ben held outside of Belfast and was a great honour for the school to facilitate the proceedings.

A total of 200 pupils from 34 schools as far afield as Belfast, Enniskillen and Newry attended. The pupils, who are in their first year of A-levels, attended a series of lectures given by Cambridge academics in a range of subjects including English, law, medicine and engineering.

The aim of the event was to give academically able students a taste of what it might be like studying at the University. Six current Cambridge pupils formed a panel for a Question and Answer session, two of which, Lorraine and Charlotte, are former High School pupils.

It was organised by Corpus Christi College, one of 29 undergraduate colleges that make up the Universty of Cambridge, and is part of a wider initiative to encourage more pupils in Northern Ireland to apply for places in Cambridge.
