Two Girls Selected for the Northern Ireland Senior Netball Team
for the European Championships
posted 26 Jan 06

Congratulations to Chloe and Lisa who were told last week that they have been selected onto the full Senior Open Northern Ireland netball team which will be travelling to Cardiff on 16 February to compete in the European Championships.

This is a tremendous achievement for Chloe, a past pupil of the High School, and for Lisa, currently at the High School but from Magherafelt, as girls are only 19 and 17 years of age respectively.

Chloe’s netball career continues to go from strength to strength. Last year she had 5 internationals, the highlight being part of the Northern Ireland Under 21 team who won the European Championship and then went on to Florida to compete in the World Youth Games where they finished 6 th, 12 places above their ranking.

Now a student at Jordanstown, Chloe was in October selected as one of their ‘elite athletes’ and was awarded a scholarship for her outstanding netball ability.

Lisa is also showing tremendous talent for one so young. She is a very adaptable player who is capable of playing both in defence and attack. Her playing positions for Northern Ireland are Goal Shooter and Goal Keeper and with her height advantage (She is 6 feet tall) she is a great asset to any team.

Lisa was selected last year for the under 21 squad and played with Chloe on the team which won the European Championships and so has already gained valuable experience. She has been on the Northern Ireland U19 and U21 squads for the last 2 years and narrowly missed out on going to Florida to the World Youth Games.

Both girls now have their sights set on competing with Northern Ireland at the World Senior Netball Championships in Fiji in 2007.
