Vi- Sport Netball Tournament
posted 24 Oct 06

On Monday 2nd October Cookstown High School attended the Vi- Sport Cross- Border Netball Tournament which was held at the Mount Anville School in Dublin.

This is an annual Tournament played between six schools, three from Northern Ireland and the three top netball schools from Southern Ireland. The competition is alternated between north and south every year and each school invited takes it in turn to host the competition. Cookstown High School hosted the tournament last year and it proved to be a real success.

The schools taking part were Mount Anville Dublin, Rathdown Dublin, and Holy Child Killiney also from Dublin, Sacred Heart Newry, Banbridge Academy and Cookstown High School. The inaugural Competition took place four years ago in Banbridge and it has been held twice in the north and twice in the south since then.

At this years tournament 15 games were played, each lasted 8 minutes each way in the round robin Competition. Cookstown played 5 games winning 4 and drawing one against Banbridge Academy.

Cookstown beat Sacred Heart Newry (12- 6) Rathdown (16- 5) Holy Child Killiney (12-4) Mount Anville (19- 2) and drew with Banbridge (10- 10). Cookstown had the best results overall and the highest goal difference of all the teams taking part, and were declared winners of the tournament for the fourth year in succession.

The girls thoroughly enjoyed getting the chance to play other schools in the south and renewing friendships struck up from last years competitions between all the different schools.
